The Katsina State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has strengthened its commitment to transparency and accountability with the inauguration of the State Open Government Partnership (OGP) Committee and the conclusion of a two-day symposium focused on developing the State Work Plan under the Open Government Partnership framework.

Governor Malam Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda represented by Katsina state secretary state government Alh Abdullahi faskari, formally inaugurated the Katsina State OGP Committee as part of efforts to institutionalize open governance reforms. The ceremony underscored the administration’s resolve to deepen transparency, promote accountability, and encourage citizen participation in governance processes.

The high-level symposium, which followed the inauguration, brought together government officials, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to refine the Katsina State OGP State Action Plan in line with global best practices.

Addressing participants, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Malam Malik Anas described open governance as a vital tool for building public trust and strengthening democratic institutions. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to reforms that promote fiscal transparency and inclusive governance.

Stakeholders at the meeting agreed that Katsina’s OGP commitments will now focus on three major thematic areas following a strategic review of priorities.

The first is Fiscal Responsibility, aimed at promoting prudent management of public resources, strengthening procurement systems, enhancing budget transparency, and reinforcing accountability mechanisms to ensure efficient use of public funds.

The second priority is Peace Building and Social Cohesion, which seeks to promote inclusive dialogue, strengthen community engagement, and enhance stability across the State as a foundation for sustainable development.

The third thematic area is Climate Change, reflecting the State’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges through improved policy coordination, climate resilience strategies, and transparency in climate-related interventions.

Civil society groups, including the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and the Youth Participation in Progressive Development Initiatives, actively contributed to the discussions, reinforcing the collaborative and co-creation principles that define the OGP process.

Participants also agreed on practical frameworks for implementation, monitoring, and reporting to ensure that commitments remain measurable and results-oriented.

With the formal inauguration of the committee and adoption of the new thematic priorities, Katsina State continues to position itself as a strong advocate of accountable, transparent, and forward-looking governance.
